Worldwide over 35 % of the farmer's yield of fruits and vegetables gets wasted due to spoilage. India itself loses over 40 % of farm produce. Like humans, Fruits and vegetables also breathe, and they tend to lose moisture quickly because of internal activity. Because of quick activity, they lose their freshness very soon, as a result, becoming unfit for consumption. Farm decay is the 3rd highest cause of greenhouse emission and is a huge economical loss for the farmers as well as for consumers.
Our solution helps the farmers in keeping their produce fresh for 2x of its current shelf life. We have achieved this by reducing the internal activity of fruits and vegetables, making them respirate slowly. This slowing in respiration helps in keeping the moisture intact thus delaying the process of ripening. We have created a plant-based edible coating for fruits and vegetables that helps in keeping the farm produce fresh so that we can enjoy better produce at lower prices.
